Happy NINETEENTH birthday to Mimi!! 19 years of lap cuddles, love bites, tolerating dogs, editing/rubbing on my books, and making any room she’s in feel like home—Mimi is my purr baby queen! We got her and her (probably not biological) sister Vivi from the barn cat bin at a livestock feed store when I was in college, and while Vivi prefers the green acres at my mom’s, Mimi has been living her best city life with me since 2012, and both cats are going strong! We celebrated with lobster-flavored Temptation treats, a Churu squeezie, and this catnip “meowijuana” doobie, which at Mimi’s age is medicinal. I love my cat! (Kitten pics at the end!)

Courtney Yip, my dear friend since I was 11 and the gifted lighting designer who helped me portray Iris’s profession in FULL BLOOM, also once worked on the 9/11 memorial Tribute in Light. September 11th, 2001 I was sitting behind Courtney in chemistry class when we watched that horrible day unfold on our classroom TV, and on the tenth anniversary she took me to the site to view the memorial up close. It was raining and the heat from the light beams sent the rain back up in plumes of steam like ghosts. It was beautiful and moving, and I am touched to see the memorial every year. Tonight, I’m reminded that life is precious, violence is horrible, and it’s a privilege to grow old with your friends. Praying for peace in all regions and all hearts. 🙏#NeverForget
