Courtney Yip, my dear friend since I was 11 and the gifted lighting designer who helped me portray Iris’s profession in FULL BLOOM, also once worked on the 9/11 memorial Tribute in Light. September 11th, 2001 I was sitting behind Courtney in chemistry class when we watched that horrible day unfold on our classroom TV, and on the tenth anniversary she took me to the site to view the memorial up close. It was raining and the heat from the light beams sent the rain back up in plumes of steam like ghosts. It was beautiful and moving, and I am touched to see the memorial every year. Tonight, I’m reminded that life is precious, violence is horrible, and it’s a privilege to grow old with your friends. Praying for peace in all regions and all hearts. 🙏#NeverForget

I've been cleaning out my closet and it reminded me of this Classic Column about the fun little discoveries we can make in forgotten pockets...enjoy "Handbag Time Machine:"

"I was going through a closet at my mom’s house when I spotted an old handbag I felt worthy of rescuing and bringing back to New York. Upon opening it, I found a folded piece of yellow paper inside. It had a list of questions written on it in my handwriting, but that I didn’t remember writing:

“In whose house was he raised? Yours or Barbara’s?”

“How much does he eat, how often?”

“Introducing to other dogs?”

I pulled out the next items: two tickets to Dressage at Devon 2008.

Suddenly, my heart swelled at the memory..."

Is that Pip?

Love this. I also find treasures in coat pockets (receipts, coins) and bookmarks made from old pics or lists. Sweet memories.

Great column!
